Dubai-based Emirates has announced that it has upgraded its self-check-in facilities at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

These self-check-in and bag drop kiosks, which were installed in September, have now become touchless.

By personal mobile devices, passengers will be able to control around 32 self-service bag drop machines and 16 check-in kiosks without touching the screens.

The kiosks help the passengers to check-in, select seats on board, receive their boarding passes, and drop off their baggage.

Emirates stated that the kiosks will now offer additional services as well.

One such service will allow travellers to make payments for supplementary purchases such as additional baggage allowance.

During peak periods, these kiosks, along with the Emirates check-in agents, will cut down waiting time for passengers.

The service is currently available to passengers travelling to all destinations except the US, Canada, Hong Kong, China and India.

The carrier stated that these destinations have to complete additional requirements.

More kiosks will be installed at the First and Business Class check-in area in the future.

Emirates noted that passengers can also use its integrated biometric path at the airport, which was launched in October 2020 and uses a combination of facial and iris recognition.

With this, Emirates passengers can check-in, finish immigration formalities, enter the Emirates Lounge and board their flights just by walking through the airport.
