Dubai-based airline Emirates has entered a new codeshare agreement with Garuda Indonesia, the country’s flag carrier, to offer better connectivity to passengers.

Under the partnership, customers of both the airlines will benefit from connectivity on 16 routes across the Americas, Middle East, Africa and Europe.

They can also avail of other travel benefits as part of the agreement.

Garuda Indonesia will put its code on routes run by Emirates. These include the routes between Jakarta and Dubai, as well as onward flights to Paris, London Heathrow, Manchester, Milan and Barcelona from the hub of Emirates.

Through its Jakarta and Denpasar hubs, Emirates will put its code on Garuda Indonesia-run flights on ten routes.

Emirates’ travellers can access seven additional domestic points in Indonesia, in addition to Jakarta and Bali.

These passengers can go to Denpasar, Surabaya, Makassar, Balikpapan, Manado, Medan, Padang and Solo from Jakarta. They can also travel to Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar from Denpasar.

Garuda Indonesia president and CEO Irfan Setiaputra said: “The start of this partnership is in line with Garuda’s commitment to contribute to the national economic recovery and connect Indonesia to the world.

“With more countries easing travel restrictions and reopening borders, we look forward to serving both Emirates customers flying to Indonesia and Garuda customers to travel to more destinations around the globe.”

In November last year, Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Garuda Indonesia for a codeshare partnership.

At present, Emirates has codeshare alliances with 23 airline partners and two rail companies.

The carrier also has interline cooperation agreements with more than 115 airlines and rail firms.
