German logistics company DHL has unveiled plans to expand its existing facility at John C Munro Hamilton International Airport in Canada.
DHL will invest C$100m ($76.5m) in the facility upgrade, which aims to help the company meet shipment volume growth.

The new facility will be four times the size of the current facility, which is spread over 200,000ft2.
Expected to be completed in 2021, the facility will be equipped with a completely automatic sorting system capable of handling 15,000 packages an hour.
DHL Express Canada CEO Andrew Williams said: “Hamilton International Airport offers us the benefits that we need to meet our growing demands in handling capacity.
“With 24-hour landing capability, dedicated onsite Canada Border Services Agency representation and the ability to grow in the future with a partner positioned to become the cargo hub of Ontario, we know this is the best decision to continue leading the market.”

Two daily flights are currently operated from the facility to Cincinnati, Ohio. The facility is also expected to generate additional job opportunities that will add to the company’s existing headcount of 225.
DHL first established its Hamilton facility in 2008. It is currently the company’s largest Canadian facility by volume.
The logistics firm also operates in the Canadian cities of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Brampton and Montreal.
