The solution is deployed as the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is congressionally required to implement a biometric entry-exit system.

Utilising CBP’s Traveler Verification Service, veriScan captures and transmits images for identity verification during boarding. Since its launch in 2018, veriScan has processed over 28 million passengers.

VeriScan’s introduction to DEN allows airlines to expedite the boarding process through facial recognition technology.

The facial biometric process is said to be optional US citizens and travellers who prefer not to use the system can inform an airline representative or a CBP officer when they reach the departure gate.

They will then follow the traditional document inspection process required for exiting the US.

The CBP assures its dedication to privacy, employing strong security measures and limiting personal data usage in the biometric process.

Images of US citizens are deleted within 12 hours, while those of foreign nationals are securely stored as per legal requirements.

Travellers not willing to use the biometric system can opt out and provide a valid travel document for inspection by the gate agent.

BigBear.ai president Kevin McAleenan said: “We are thrilled to see positive results early on from the implementation of veriScan at Denver International Airport. I applaud DEN for their dedication to focus on security protocols using innovative technologies across 13 airlines.”
