Delhi’s second commercial airport Hindon Civil Airport has commenced commercial flight operations at the Indian capital city.

The new operations are expected to reduce demand on Delhi’s Indira Gandi International (IGI) Airport, which is located 40km away.

Operated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) at the Hindon Air Force Station of Indian Air Force, Hindon Civil Airport is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

A Heritage Aviation flight 4H-104, carrying nine passengers, departed from Pithoragarh Naini-Saini Airport in Uttarakhand at 11.30am on 11 October and landed at Hindon Civil Airport.

The flight will depart from Pithoragarh to Hindon every day except Thursday and will have a duration of one hour.

The return flight 4H-105 will depart from Hindon at 1pm and will land at 2pm at Naini-Saini Airport.

The aircraft serving the route is a Kings Air B-350. The price for one passenger flying from Pithoragarh to Hindon will be Rs2,470 ($34.8), while the return flight is priced at Rs2,270 ($32).

This move is expected to improve the air connectivity between the capital and the border district.

News agency ANI quoted Heritage Aviation CEO Rohit Mathur as saying that the company will introduce flight services to other tourist destinations.

The airport operator AAI noted that Star Air will operate flights from Hubli to Hindon and Hindon to Hubli from 6 November this year. Star Air will use a 50-seater EMB-145 (jet engine) aircraft.

AAI developed Hindon Civil Airport under the Indian Government’s UDAN scheme. UDAN is a regional airport development scheme that aims to improve connectivity and make air travel affordable.

The airport was inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8 March this year.
