Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) in Madison, Wisconsin, US, has resumed operations after a complete power outage forced a shutdown on 21 January.

The airport said that extreme cold weather spurred the additional energy consumption at the airport, resulting in an outage.

Almost a dozen flights were delayed but no flights were cancelled.

The airport advised passengers to stay away until further notice to avoid any travel inconvenience.

MSN spokesperson was quoted by Fox News as saying: “About 5:30 this morning, our power provider MG&E (Madison Gas and Electric) lost power to the terminal facility only.”

The spokesperson added that the emergency backup system also failed upon rollover.

Madison Gas and Electric technicians resolved the power outage issue and settings in the company’s control system have been adjusted to avert any future recurrence.

MSN has three runways and served more than 1.8 million passengers in 2016. The airport is served by Delta, American, Frontier and United Airlines.

These airlines offer direct flights to 15 hubs with more than 95 departures and arrivals daily to and from destinations, including Atlanta, New York City, Orlando, Salt Lake City, Washington DC, Charlotte, and San Francisco.
