Amid the reduced passenger numbers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the US has decided to operate all its flights from the international terminal of one concourse.
The measure will be effective from 1 April and the Boarding Area A containing Gates A1 – A15 will be shut down.
All of the flights will take off from Boarding Area G, which contains Gates G1 – G14.
This measure will lead to the shut down of a security checkpoint and checkpoint screening staff consolidation.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will also be present at one entry point for all international arrivals.
The consolidation measures are expected to boost passenger connectivity as the Domestic Terminal 3 is linked to Boarding Area G via a post-security connecting walkway.
It is also expected to offer better access to essential services in the airport such as food and beverages.
While Boarding Area A will be closed, the SFO Medical Clinic, Grand Hyatt at SFO, and International Parking Garage A will remain open.
Flights at the international terminal are expected to operate from Boarding Area G until the end of May. However, the plans are expected to change depending on the airline flight schedules.
In the past few days, less than 12 flights have departed from Boarding Area A each day. SFO expects this number to decrease by 52% from 1 April.
Earlier this week, the UK’s Manchester Airport also decided to operate all its flights from Terminal 1, effective from 25 March.
All passengers will now check-in and go through security via Terminal 1. Passengers who return to the airport will also land at Terminal 1.
