The Government of Canada has approved over $17.5m (C$22.5m) in funding to St John’s International Airport (YYT) for its critical infrastructure projects.
St John’s International Airport will use the infusion to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic impact, as well as for crucial transportation infrastructure projects and to offer continued air services.

As part of Transport Canada’s Airport Critical Infrastructure Programme, the airport will secure more than $14m ($18m). This will enable asphalt rehabilitation on runways, taxiways, and aprons.
The capital will also be used to upgrade lighting, signage and drainage systems. In addition, it will help replace heavy airside mobile equipment such as runway snow ploughs, ice sweepers and aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles.
These improvements are aimed at enabling safe airport operations for aircraft, crews, airport workers and travellers.
Additionally, the airport received $2.8m ($3.6m) from Transport Canada’s Airport Relief Fund to support continued airport operations and necessary air services.
