The UK’s Bristol Airport has commenced consultations on the latest proposals for long-term development that will enable it to handle approximately 12 million passengers per annum.
The ‘Towards 2050’ consultation comprises a Charter for Future Growth in five key areas such as aviation, economic impact, Green Belt, sustainable growth and surface access.

The airport also presented gateway design options, improved boundary screening and pioneering applications for a proposed airside platform.
As part of the plans, airport authorities are also considering whether to expand or construct a second terminal, a surface level car parking, an additional new multi-storey car park and a revised road layout.

Bristol Airport chairman Janis Kong said: “It was clear from the initial consultation on preparing a long-term master plan that local communities wanted clarity on our development plans and solutions to some of the issues they face living close to a busy international Airport.

Bristol Airport will file an application for the second phase of the plans to North Somerset Council.
Plans are afoot to address impacts on the local community and environment such as aircraft noise.
Bristol Airport planning and sustainability director Simon Earles said: “These proposals will ensure Bristol Airport continues to provide the connectivity our region needs to be successful while offering local residents and stakeholders greater clarity about the phasing of future development.”
Planning permission has already been secured for facilities to handle up to ten million passengers annually, and £160m has been invested in infrastructure improvements since 2010.
The consultation will close on 6 July.
