“This will be the largest industrial project ever constructed at Brisbane Airport,” CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said.

“By providing Australia Post with direct airside access, we’re streamlining the delivery of time-sensitive parcels, benefitting millions of Queenslanders in the South East and regional areas of the state.”

The Brisbane North Parcel Facility, alternatively known as Australia Post’s StarTrack Premium site, will give direct access to the airport tarmac to connect the postal service’s intermodal operations.

The construction includes the fitting of at least 1,000 solar panels, which BAC hoped would help the project achieve the “5-Star Green Star certification for energy and water efficiency, climate change resilience and reduced environmental impacts during construction” it set its sights on.

With construction now underway the facility is on track to be operational in mid-2025, when it will process nearly 200,000 parcels per day at peak times.

The postal project is part of Brisbane Airport’s A$5bn ($3.25bn) Future BNE program which includes upgrades to the Domestic Terminal, International Terminal and planning for a new Terminal 3.
