Boeing has launched a Disruptive Computing and Networks (DC&N) organisation to develop communications and computing solutions that can be used for commercial and government aerospace applications.

The organisation will leverage core technologies in quantum communications and computing, neuromorphic processing and advanced sensing to develop computing solutions.

In addition to boosting internal capabilities, DC&N will work closely with Boeing HorizonX, which is the innovation cell, to identify external partners for collaboration.

Boeing chief technology officer and senior vice-president of engineering, test and technology Greg Hyslop said: “Advanced computing and communications technologies are increasingly at the core of all aerospace innovation.

Based in Southern California, US, DC&N will operate as part of Boeing Engineering, Test and Technology (BR&T).

Charles Toups will act as vice-president and general manager of DC&N, having previously served in these roles for BR&T.

Naveed Hussain will lead BR&T, which consists of almost 4,000 engineers, scientists, technicians and technologists.

Boeing expanded its parts programme, Integrated Material Solution (IMS), to enable it to meet airline customers’ supply chain requirements for customised, flexible parts and logistics solutions.

Integrated Material Solution provides demand planning for consumables, expendables and customer furnished equipment with management of rotable parts.

Boeing subsidiary Aviall signed a two-year agreement with El Al Israel Airlines for component management, test, repair and overhaul.

Lufthansa Group will add two 777-200F landing gear overhaul and exchanges to its existing contract.
