The airport has teamed up with Indian domestic airline Vistara to launch the One-ID biometric platform technology, which has been developed and deployed by tech firm Vision-Box.

After the completion of the final phase early next year, it is likely to be the largest installation of an end-to-end paperless biometric programme in Asia with more than 350 passenger touchpoints at Bengaluru Airport Terminal 1.

Bangalore International Airport managing director and CEO Hari Marar said: “BIAL is extremely excited to roll out this Digi Yatra-based biometric technology that has the potential to make the passenger experience at the BLR Airport seamless, secure and enjoyable.

“As the gateway to a new India, the BLR Airport would like to be a frontrunner amongst next-generation airport operations.

“Once we trial the full end-to-end process successfully and integrate it into the Digi Yatra Platform being developed by the Digi Yatra Foundation, the technology and process will be used extensively for seamless flow in our upcoming Terminal 2 Project as well.”

The programme will initially allow passengers travelling on Vistara flight UK864 from Bengaluru to Mumbai to use this facility without showing travel documents at every touchpoint.

According to the airport operator, it will be made possible by the integration of Vistara’s Departure Control System, which will facilitate effortless processing at the entry to the terminal, passenger security screening, and the boarding gate.

Plans are also being considered to integrate Vistara flights with the biometric boarding process by October this year.

As part of the broader roll-out, the airport will integrate this process with check-in and self-bag-drop to include other domestic and international airlines.

Finally, this biometric technology will be connected with the Digi Yatra Central Platform, which is currently being developed by the Central Government’s Digi Yatra Foundation.
