UK-based company BAE Systems and US-based electrical vertical take-off and landing developer Jaunt Air Mobility have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Under this agreement, the two parties will jointly develop electric energy management systems for urban air mobility (UAM) vehicles.

The companies will conduct research on products that could facilitate the future development of aircraft electrification.

The partnership will also jointly investigate the requirements of power management on aircraft and extending urban traffic into the airspace.

Jaunt Air Mobility chief executive officer Kaydon Stanzione said: “BAE Systems’ development and integration expertise in high integrity controls and power management systems gives our business an edge in the development of next-generation air vehicles for urban environments.”

The US start-up company has designed and developed a Reduced Rotor Operating Speed Aircraft (ROSA) solution for urban air mobility.

BAE Systems will bring more than 20 years of experience in developing and integrating electric propulsion systems to the partnership.

The company has installed over 10,000 electric-hybrid systems on transit buses and marine vessels in major cities, including Paris, London, New York, and San Francisco.
