Ireland-based aircraft leasing firm Avolon has finalised an $11bn order with Boeing to purchase 75 737 MAX planes.

The order follows a memorandum of understanding signed at this year’s Paris Air Show, and includes 55 MAX 8s and 20 MAX 10s, with options for 20 additional MAX 8 aircraft.

With the latest order, Avolon intends to boost its position in the global commercial aviation market.

“We have experienced strong interest in our initial MAX orders and this incremental order reflects this demand.”

Avolon CEO Dómhnal Slattery said: “This is the largest single order that we have placed with Boeing to date and underscores the scale of our ambition and the strength of our business.

Avolon currently operates a fleet of 915 owned, managed and committed aircraft.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Kevin McAllister said:” Today’s order solidifies Avolon’s commitment to providing their customers with the most efficient, technologically advanced airplane on the market.”

Separately, Boeing has secured an order from Kazakhstan-based SCAT Airlines to provide six of its 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The $674m deal also includes purchase rights for five additional 737 MAX 8 jets.
