American Airlines has placed a $457m order with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to purchase ten E175 jets.

Deliveries of the new aircraft are expected to begin next year and will continue until mid-2019.

Following the delivery, the new jets will be operated by American Airlines Group subsidiary Envoy.

The aircraft will be equipped with 76 seats, including 12 First Class, 20 main cabin extra, and 44 main cabin seats.

The latest deal is in addition to an order placed by American Airlines in April for four Embraer aircraft.

Along with two previous orders for E175 jets, the order is expected to bring American Airlines’ total fleet of E175 aircraft to 74.

Embraer Commercial Aviation North America sales and marketing vice-president Charlie Hillis said: “Because of its excellent operational performance, the E175 has proven to be the right solution for American.

“This repeat order demonstrates the confidence that the airline has in Embraer and in the E175.”

Since January 2013, Embraer has sold more than 390 E175 aircraft to airlines in North America.

Embraer’s E-Jets family has so far secured more than 1,800 orders and over 1,300 aircraft have been delivered worldwide.

Available in 70 to 150-seat configuration, the aircraft family is being operated by low-cost airlines and regional and mainline carriers.
