As part of the resolution, states, regulatory authorities and all aviation stakeholders are required to coordinate to promote an internationally recognised framework for a sound and sustainable recovery.

In order to alleviate the unprecedented impact of the outbreak that has resulted in disruption of global air transport, ACI World has urged policy relief measures to protect airport charges, revenues, tax relief and concession fee waivers.

The measures also included the temporary suspension of slot usage requirements, measures to ensure the continuity of air cargo operations, and comprehensive financial relief, including cash injections.

ACI World director general Angela Gittens said: “Airports are important engines of economic growth, wealth creation and employment and the Covid-19 pandemic’s effect on the industry and broader economy has halted the airport industry at global level.

“Airports need urgent relief to help assist them to weather the far-reaching economic ramifications of the crisis and help lay the foundation of a balanced recovery.”

Furthermore, the resolution by the board advocates for recovery measures with a focus on ensuring that the approach on health restrictions and mutual recognition from regulators is coordinated.

The measures include industry engagement with international, national, and regional health boards for developing consistent protocols for travellers, as well as some that take a risk-based approach to travel restrictions and new process requirements.

In addition, the measures include recovery best-practices, the protection of airport staff, effective communication, a flexible approach and the evaluation of consumer confidence.

A focus on sustainability and stakeholder engagement are also part of the measures.
