LAS Implements New Passenger Technology with Contract Renewal

Rockwell Collins will continue to provide passenger processing solutions and technologies to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) follow the renewal of the latest contract, continuing the 20-year partnership.

Under the contract renewal, McCarran International will see 176 common-use self service kiosks replaced with new units as a part of the Terminal 1 upgrade.

LAS aviation over information systems assistant director Samuel Ingalls says: “Our team is constantly evaluating the airport’s infrastructure and operations seeking ways to enhance customer service, maximize efficiencies and increase flexibility.

“Over the past two decades, we have had great success in managing our soaring passenger volume through the implementation of common use processes and other cutting-edge technologies such as those provided by Rockwell Collins.”

Maintaining its position as one of North America’s leading airports, LAS will work closely with Rockwell Collins to implement advanced passenger processing systems, including:

  • ARINC cMUSET: Rockwell Collins’ next-generation Cloud-native passenger processing system delivers a cost-effective, flexible check-in system to help reduced support and implementation requirements.
  • ARINC SelfDropTM: Current trials will continue with Rockwell Collins’ automated self-service bag drop and RFID tagging.

Included in the contract renewal is continued support for additional airport systems supplied by Rockwell Collins, which includes:

  • ARINC MUSE: Allowing cost-sharing applications for check-in and departure gates with Rockwell Collins’ common-use passenger processing system (CUPPS).
  • RFID Bag Tags: Radio frequency identification bag tags provide advanced bag tracking and tracing.
  • ARINC BagLinkTM: Supporting efficient and accurate baggage loading with a powerful baggage messaging server.
  • Local DCS: Simplifying the entire check-in process with a standalone check-in and boarding system.
  • Self-Boarding Gates: Allowing passengers to scan and board the aircraft via an automated gate.

The 1-to-Many matching approach is being promoted for use in airports because it removes the requirement for passengers to produce a BCBP or passport.
