Cambodia’s Phnom Penh International Airport has launched a new service by UAE-based airline Emirates.

The airport is developed and managed by Cambodia Airports.

With one stop in Yangon, Myanmar, the new daily air service will link Phnom Penh Airport with Dubai International Airport in UAE.

Cambodia Airports CEO Éric Delobel said: “This Emirates aircraft touching down at Phnom Penh International Airport brings a wealth of opportunities by further bolstering Cambodia’s profile as one of the fastest growing economies and most popular tourism destinations in the region.

“It will be instrumental in boosting the airport connectivity and the number of air travellers. It also comes as the reward of Emirates’ and Cambodia Airports cooperation, together with Cambodian civil aviation authority, throughout the years.”

Last year, passenger traffic at Phnom Penh International Airport registered a continued and significant growth with 3.3 million travellers passing to and from the airport gates.

Built over a surface area of 31,000m2, the new expansion of the Cambodian airport provides passengers with the latest and upgraded facilities and services.

Cambodia’s three international airports, Phnom Penh International Airport, Sihanoukville International Airport and Siem Reap International Airport, currently handle more than 30 airlines serving more than 40 destinations.

The direct, indirect, induced and catalytic impacts of the airports represent 17% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and 1.7 million jobs or 20% of the working population of the country.
