The Union environment ministry has cleared the expansion plan for the airport.

Adani Group company Lucknow International Airport Limited (LIAL) was quoted by the news publication as saying: “CCSIA (Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport) in Lucknow has a total land area of 509.41ha (1258.80 acres), making it one of the most land-constrained airports in India.”

LIAL is now planning to expand the airport within an area of 457.1ha.

It further noted: “CCSIA presently has two operational passenger terminals: international terminal (T1) and the domestic terminal (T2). A new integrated terminal building (T3) is under construction, located west of Terminal T1.”

To accommodate 39 MPPA, a new terminal building (T4) with associated infrastructure, support facilities, and utilities will be also constructed along with the new T3.

For handling cargo up to 0.25 million tonnes a year, a cargo complex will be constructed at CCSIA in a total area of 23.14ha.

The expansion project is expected to create around 2,000 jobs during its construction phase, and around 25000 jobs upon becoming operational.

In November 2020, Adani Group acquired CCSIA from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

As per earlier reports, Adani Group is set to invest around $1bn (Rs100bn) in Ahmedabad Airport between 2023 and 2027 to grow the passenger handling capacity of the airport by three-fold.
