Gatwick (LGW) and Stansted (STN)airports in London, UK, have closed their runways due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures in the UK’s capital city.

Several flights at both airports have been halted as a result of critical weather conditions. It resulted in delaying or cancellation of flights for many passengers.

Stansted Airport was quoted by The Guardian as saying: “passengers are advised to check with their airline for the current status of their flights.”

EasyJet, which is the most affected airline, cancelled or delayed its flights at Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports.

Around 90 departures have been cancelled from Gatwick between midday and midnight on Sunday, while 37 departures are expected to be cancelled on Monday.

Gatwick on Twitter was quoted by the news publication as saying: “snow and freezing weather may disrupt at the airport. Passengers are advised to check flight status with their airline – and also local travel conditions – before departing.”
