Technip Energies Sustainable Fuels, Chemicals and Circularity senior vice-president Bhaskar Patel said: “We are pleased to have been selected by TotalEnergies for this project which is fully in line with Technip Energies’ strategy to accelerate the energy transition and the reduction of CO₂ emissions using SAF.

“We will leverage our technical expertise and execution capabilities to make this project a success and to contribute to TotalEnergies’ transformation strategy towards low-carbon businesses.”

Upon starting operations, the Grandpuits refinery will be able to produce 210,000t of SAF annually using sustainable feedstock including used cooking oil and animal fat.

The French company said that the conversion of the Grandpuits refinery into a zero-crude platform would involve the development of various ‘future-oriented’ activities tied to renewable energies, biomass, as well as the circular economy.

Technip added that it has provided several proprietary and partnership-based solutions such as biodiesel and biojet production technologies.

In March, TotalEnergies started the production process of SAF at its Normandy platform in north-western France.

This is intended to meet the French Government’s new mandate of using at least 1% of SAF in aircraft by 1 January 2022.
