Portugal’s Lisbon Airport (LIS) has been equipped with Indra’s Airport Operations Plan (AOP) system, which will allow the airport to exchange information with the European Network Manager on flight departures and arrivals.

Indra’s AOP system is incorporated into the European air navigation Network Operations Plan (NOP).

The incorporation will help Lisbon Airport improve its flight predictability across the European air traffic network.

In addition, it is said to facilitate better air traffic coordination, management and capacity while reducing flight delays, expenses and pollutant emissions.

Indra Ports and Airports Mobility Market director Lidia Muñoz Perez said: “This project for Lisbon Airport has been made possible by Indra’s previous experience at SESAR, where it has been able to work, test and validate several developments that have contributed to making our Airport Operations Plan product the most advanced of its kind currently in operation.

“Being a spearhead in this area of cooperation between airport management and air traffic management in Europe will reinforce Indra’s technological leadership and position the company with a view to future contracts at other European airports.”

The AOP system deployed at Lisbon Airport will share information with the Network Manager Operations Center of the European air navigation network manager once airlines issue flight plans, which may be nearly 20 hours before their departure.

This is up compared with the three hours of advance information provided at most advanced airports, stated Indra.

With this new system, Lisbon Airport will initiate a new level of AOP-NOP airports, thereby enhancing data accuracy and anticipating the situation at the airport on the part of Eurocontrol.
