German transport company Fraport and flag carrier Lufthansa have established a new joint venture (JV) known as FraAlliance, which will be equally owned by the two entities.

The new JV will enable both firms to boost their existing partnership on strategic and operational issues at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and enhance services at the airport’s Terminal One.

It will focus on optimising business development and operations, sustainability, customer experience, infrastructure and intermodality.

The JV will evaluate and optimise processes in terminal operations in addition to applying a joint customer-focused approach to product development.

It aims to make a journey-wide improvement of processes and product offerings for flights, in addition to increasing the competitiveness of the airport.

The availability of real-time updates for aviation security checkpoints in the Lufthansa App is one of the initial results of the expanded alliance.

Using the app, Lufthansa passengers can view checkpoint waiting times in Frankfurt to better plan their schedule and travel arrangements.

Passenger flows have been analysed and optimised in another project. By eliminating redundant and duplicate security checks, it will help notably lower transfer times for around a million passengers annually.

Fraport aviation and infrastructure executive director Pierre Dominique Prümm said: “With this joint venture, we’re creating a highly responsive and effective team that can pursue areas of mutual interest and to continue improving passenger services.”

Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter said: “We want to offer our customers a reliable, punctual, and first-rate travel experience. The joint venture will allow us to place stronger and more targeted emphasis on the projects required to realise these aims.”
