Canada Transport Minister Omar Alghabra unveiled the plan, which includes a vision of net-zero emissions by 2050 for the aviation sector in the country.

The plan also includes the 10% sustainable aviation fuel consumption target by 2030 to support the net-zero goal.

Furthermore, it covers crucial pathways and actions by the Government of Canada and the aviation industry to enhance efficiency and lower pollution from aviation activities.

The new plan will allow the Government of Canada and the aviation industry to implement a variety of measures to deliver better service to Canadians.

Furthermore, it will also serve as a foundation, helping the Government of Canada further involve stakeholders, key experts, and the public to attain the objectives.

The action will include a series of updates, with the first in 2024. It includes a re-evaluation of long-term projections and strengthening short-term pledges, in addition to setting interim goals and ensuring continued alignment with Canada’s climate targets.

In a statement, Alghabra said: “Transportation, economy and climate should go hand-in-hand. Canada’s Aviation Climate Action Plan is a good example of how we can come together to set a net-zero emission vision and lay out the actions needed to get us on the right path.

“Our government will engage with key stakeholders and the public to implement the activities in the Action Plan and explore additional measures to reduce pollution.”
