Finland’s flag carrier Finnair has reopened a new route to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, India, after more than a decade.
Finnair last operated the route between Helsinki Airport (HEL) and CSMIA in 2009.

Finavia Sales and Route Development senior vice-president Petri Vuori said: “We are very happy for Finnair’s reopened connection to Mumbai. The opening of the connection to India shows that the transfer traffic via Helsinki Airport is recovering.”
The airline’s first flight arrived at the Mumbai airport on 7 August and departed on the same day.
The relaunched connection will operate three times a week.
CSMIA spokesperson was quoted by various news agencies as saying: “CSMIA is extremely delighted with the association with Finnair, one of the leading airlines catering to routes across Asia, US and Europe.

In April, Finnair said that it will continue to take the long route for operations to Asia in the fourth quarter of 2022-2023 as Russian skies remain closed.
This March, Aemetis reached an agreement with the airline to supply 17.5 million gallons of blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The value of the contract is around $70m.
