Although SkyTeam did not mention any reason for its decision, it is likely a punitive measure for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In a statement, SkyTeam said: “SkyTeam and Aeroflot have agreed to temporarily suspend the airline’s SkyTeam membership.
“We are working to limit the impact for customers and will inform those affected by any changes to SkyTeam benefits and services.”
Established in 2000, SkyTeam is headquartered in Amsterdam and is one of the three major airline alliances across the globe.

By GlobalDataFormed after Star Alliance and Oneworld, SkyTeam has 19 airline companies as its members, which operate routes to more than 1,036 destinations across 170 countries.
Its members include KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Korean Air, China Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Saudia, Air Europa and Vietnam Airlines.
The alliance members serve more than 676 million passengers annually.
The suspension of Aeroflot from the airline alliance comes after the suspension of another Russian airline company, S7, from the Oneworld frequent flyer alliance.
Oneworld alliance members include some of the world’s leading airlines and nearly 30 affiliated carriers. The suspension of S7 was seen as another move to isolate Russia from the global aviation sector following its offensive against Ukraine.
