Raytheon Technologies business Collins Aerospace has joined forces with Intel to equip its Perigon computers with the latter’s Atom x6400E processor.
The Perigon flight management computer is set to become the first certified aviation solution equipped with the Intel processor.

The new Perigon solution is claimed to have 20 times more processing speed than that of Collins’ existing flight control computers, as well as the capacity to support software applications including fly-by-wire and autonomous flight control.
Collins Aerospace power and controls president Henry Brooks said: “Perigon connects decades of experience in flight control computing from Collins with industry-leading processing expertise from Intel.
“This powerful combination of cutting-edge technologies will provide customers with a unique, next-gen solution to enable new performance capacity in future commercial and defence platforms.”
The company further stated that the processor reinforces Perigon’s ability to support next-gen flight control and vehicle management requirements of commercial as well as defence platforms.

By GlobalDataAtom x6400E is said to improve Perigon’s ability to operate in harsh aircraft thermal environments by reducing its power usage and heat generation.
Additionally, with the Intel Airworthiness Evidence Package, Perigon will become FAA certifiable to enable aircraft level certification, Collins Aerospace said.

“The Atom x6400E’s enhanced computing capabilities with Intel’s Airworthiness Evidence Package will play an integral role in enabling Perigon’s support of flight safety and time-critical applications for the next generation of aircraft, allowing customers to modernise their flight control and vehicle management for today’s and tomorrow’s aviation applications.”
In February, Collins Aerospace entered into a maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) agreement with Singapore Airlines and Scoot.
