The newly-built arrival terminal at T1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the Indian capital of New Delhi has commenced operations.

The airport has three terminals, namely T1, T2 and T3, which are run by Delhi International Airport Ltd  (DIAL).

This new arrival terminal is part of the airport’s ongoing phase 3A expansion and has been developed by DIAL.

Covering an area of 8,000m², the new arrival facility features four new baggage reclaim carousels.

It also offers a forecourt area, including landscaping and kiosks for food and beverage, retail and expanded parking area for cars, as well as ‘meet and greet’ zone, reported the Press Trust of India.

The pickup lanes have been realigned and widened outside the arrival terminal with three new lanes. This increases the total number of lanes to 11.

This project also conforms to Leadership Energy and Environment Design (LEED) green standards, stated the agency.

Terminal 1 is used as a domestic terminal. All the current arrival operations of T1 will now shift to the new one.

Departure operations will be carried out from the current terminal as of now. Plans are on to integrate it with the new arrivals facility after the expansion is concluded.

Jaipuriar DIAL CEO Videh Kumar said: “The terminal includes contemporary zones for comfort and leisure, eco-friendly features like maximum use of daylight concept and offers an astute combination of green buildings and superior operational processes delivering enhanced passenger experience.”
