Global aerospace and technology company Vertical Aerospace has reached a partnership to work on operating its VA-X4 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle from Heathrow Airport (LHR) in the UK by mid-decade.
According to the agreement, the two companies will focus on ways to implement this new technology into the existing operations at the airport.

They will also focus on the regulatory changes needed for the deployment of these flying taxis while looking to reduce potential impact on surrounding communities.
Heathrow Airport chief strategy officer Chris Annetts said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Vertical, a global champion in emissions-free aviation.
“This emerging technology has the potential to reduce congestion and pollution on local roads while providing passengers with a best-in-class experience on the cutting edge of modern technology. We look forward to exploring the possibilities of zero-emissions flight together.”
Vertical claims that its eVTOL has the ability to transport four passengers from Heathrow to the City of London in 12 minutes, at a price similar to a taxi.

Through this collaboration, Vertical and Heathrow aim to help Britain in maintaining its ‘leading’ position in the sustainable aviation technologies segment.
Additionally, the partnership is also expected to support the UK Government’s goal of making the country net-zero by 2050.

Currently, Vertical counts American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Avolon, Bristow Group, Iberojet and Marubeni Corporation as clients.
Earlier this month, Munich Airport International (MAI) and Urban-Air Port (UAP) teamed up to develop electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) ground infrastructure and airport operations in Germany.
