iGA Istanbul Airport in Turkey has selected ADB Safegate’s solutions to automate the docking of aeroplanes in all weather conditions and enhance parking accuracy.

The airport has deployed ADB Safegate’s Safedock T1 advanced visual docking guidance systems (A-VDGS) and SafeControl Apron Management (SAM) system.

Under the turnkey contract, iGA Istanbul Airport received 151 Safedock T1 A-VDGS from ADB Safegate.

The contract also covered the design, delivery and installation of the systems, along with a two-year agreement for round-the-clock maintenance supported by a local team.

Equipped with a digital laser and 3D scanning technology, Safedock T1 A-VDGS is claimed to offer the accuracy and availability required to automate the aircraft docking process.

In addition to all aircraft types, Safedock T1 A-VDGS is suitable for tight parking spaces and complex gate layouts.

SafeControl Apron Management (SAM) serves as an integrator linking the Safedock A-VDGS with other airport systems.

This feature of SAM allows sharing of flight and turn information with both the flight and ground crews.

The information is shared via Safedock’s Ramp Information Display System (RIDS).

Due to the sharing of accurate block times and other real-time data, the efficiency of the turnaround process increases, claimed ADB Safegate.

ADB Safegate VP Middle East & Africa Aziz Cakir said: “At its peak capacity, iGA Istanbul Airport will be able to support 150 – 200 million passengers annually, and needs a partner who can match them every step of this journey.

“We’ve proven our capabilities earlier with the successful setup of 35,000 intelligent lights for the airfield. With this contract for apron systems, we are demonstrating how the airport can benefit from our integrated approach to airport performance spanning the gate, airfield, tower and analytics.“

ADB Safegate claimed that Gap filler integration with the Advanced Surface Movement Guidance Control System (A-SMGCS) enables continuous monitoring of movement of an aeroplane in the gate area, and will support the activation of the docking systems and a Follow-the-Greens (FtG) guidance solution.

The FtG solution employs the green runway/taxiway centerline lights and apron lead-in lights. These lights help to guide an aeroplane into the gate area from where the A-VDGS takes over and then guides the pilot to the precise position for the aircraft to stop.

In a separate development, Qatar-based firm for airports operation and management Matar has completed its fifth full-scale emergency exercise at Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Qatar.

This year’s emergency exercise, named Emergency Exercise Oryx India 2021, focused on testing the effectiveness of the airport and its stakeholders in responding to an unlawful aircraft interference situation.

In June,  HIA collaborated with Smiths Detection to equip its security checkpoint with a new baggage screening technology.
