Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of Raytheon Technologies, has reached a definitive agreement to acquire FlightAware, which offers a flight tracking and data platform.

Upon deal completion, FlightAware will become part of Collins’ Information Management Services portfolio within the company’s Avionics strategic business unit.

The transaction awaits a regulatory nod. The financial details of the deal were not divulged by the companies.

Based in Houston, Texas, US, FlightAware offers predictive technology, analytics, decision-making tools in addition to global flight tracking solutions.

It offers real-time and historical flight information and insights to all segments of the global aviation community.

Collins Aerospace Systems was created in 2018 by combining UTC Aerospace Systems and Rockwell Collins.

Commenting on the deal, Collins Aerospace Avionics head Dave Nieuwsma said: “Global connectivity now shapes and impacts every segment of aviation.

“FlightAware is the recognised leader in data collection, analytics and customer experience, which will help Collins unlock the full power of the connected ecosystem for our customers.

“FlightAware’s flight tracking and data platform, the largest in the world, has the potential to deliver new capabilities and innovations across our entire business.”

In June 2018, Honeywell announced that it will partner with FlightAware to provide advanced flight tracking support to operations control centres and business jet owners.

The collaboration enables Honeywell GoDirect Flight Services’ users to have access to FlightAware’s aggregated flight information from data link position reports and air traffic control radar systems in more than 45 nations.
