The construction of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) $2bn Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility has achieved a milestone after the structure was topped off by pouring concrete on its last 233,000 cubic yards.
Upon completion in 2023, the ConRAC facility is expected to create an easier rental car experience for the hundreds of thousands of travellers renting cars each year at the LAX airport.

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) said that the facility will become the largest of its kind in the world.
The ConRAC facility is part of LAX’s $5.5bn Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which aims to improve access to the airport and provide new pick-up/drop-off options for travellers.
LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci said: “The consolidated Rent-A-Car facility will be a game-changer for our airport when it opens in 2023, providing a streamlined rental car experience for the hundreds of thousands of travellers who rent cars each year.
“We thank all of the craft workers and project team members who have tallied more than two and a half million work hours to reach this significant achievement as we build a better LAX.”

By GlobalDataThe facility is being developed under a public-private partnership (P3) with LAX ConRAC Partners (LAXCP).
ConRAC will have the capacity to accommodate more than 18,000 rental car vehicles, including Ready Return and Idle Storage.
Additionally, the facility will feature a Quick Turn Around the building, which will be used for the light maintenance of vehicles such as fuelling, car washing, oil changes and tire rotation.
By keeping operations within the footprint of the facility, the Quick Turn Around building will help in minimising traffic congestion on the roads.
The ConRAC facility will be linked to LAX Central Terminal Area via the automated people mover train system, which also is currently under construction.
ConRAC Design and Construction project director Alan Kuysters said: “Topping off at the Idle Storage building represents the latest achievement in a series of significant construction milestones for our team.
“It is rewarding to see our team’s hard work and dedication come together once again in such a significant moment for the final building concrete pour.”
