Finnish airport operator Finavia has partnered with Amadeus to upgrade the passenger handling process at 11 airports in Finland.

Finavia will install the integrated Cloud solution Amadeus Flow to facilitate contactless payments, after which airports will be able to connect with Amadeus through a single internet link.

This will allow airports to arrange any airline application within a few hours.

The Cloud infrastructure will enable Finavia, airlines and ground handling firms to open, close or move check-in desks, boarding gates or services.

Among other technology solutions, Amadeus will also deliver Airport Pay, which will allow passengers to make payments for additional services.

Finavia chief information officer Leyla Akgez-Laakso said: “We’re moving to an open Cloud platform with Amadeus and that means we can roll out new innovations far more easily, without lengthy certification cycles or on-site IT projects.

Completely integrated into the Amadeus Flow platform, the hardware systems will also be renewed under the modernisation project.

Amadeus stated that the migration will be completed at 11 of Finavia’s 20 airports by 2022.

Amadeus Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) airport IT vice-president Yannick Beunardeau said: “The immediate pressures of Covid-19 and the demands of long-term digital transformation both require a new approach to airport technology.”

Currently, Finavia is working towards the last stages of the development programme, which started in 2013 at Finland’s Helsinki Airport (HEL).

The investment programme covers the expansion of the terminal area by 45% and increases in baggage handling and passport control capacity by 50%.

Finavia is serving over 50 airlines along with their ground handling firms and has more than 600 airport check-in desks.
