It is predicted that the most considerable growth will be in the international passenger count, which is estimated to see a surge of 80.6% to 57.8 million.

Around 65 million passengers are to use domestic flights this year, which is an increase of 30.7% from the year before.

In 2020, 81.7 million passengers used domestic airports, a decline of 61% from 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Around 32 million passengers took international flights in 2020, a steep decline of 71% compared to the previous year.

Istanbul Airport was the busiest airport, handling 23.4 million passengers and 185,642 aircraft in 2020.

In January, the number of passengers using domestic airports fell to 5.2 million, down 63% year on year.

The country’s airports are estimated to handle 178.8 million passengers in 2022 and around 203.7 million by 2023.

Airports are expected to serve 1.4 million aircraft this year, up from one million in 2020.

Meanwhile, air cargo traffic is also estimated to touch 3.5 million tonnes, compared with 2.4 million tonnes in 2020.
