Dublin Airport in Ireland has reported an 85% year-on-year fall in passenger traffic in August amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Last month, the airport handled around 516,000 passengers, indicating that the pandemic continues to have a significant impact on the aviation industry.

In the same one month period, passenger traffic to and from continental Europe declined by 80% while the number of travellers to and from the UK plummeted by 89%.

During August, around 25,400 passengers travelled on transatlantic routes, implying a 95% fall in passenger volumes to and from North America.

Traffic to the Middle East also declined by 93% while the number of passengers on domestic routes fell by 69% last month.

Since January this year, Dublin Airport has served just over 6.2 million passengers, a 72% fall compared to the figures registered last year.
