The scope of work also includes the installation, testing and commissioning of the systems.

As agreed, Cavotec will make the deliveries between October and December next year while the installation and commissioning works are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.

The contract comes as Qatar prepares to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Cavotec Airports & Industry Division president Juergen Strommer said: “This high visibility project demonstrates our ability to provide complete system solutions that supply electrical power and pre-conditioned air to parked aircraft, thereby improving gate efficiency and passenger experience.”

Headquartered in Switzerland, Cavotec is a global engineering group that focuses on designing and making automated connection and electrification systems for ports, airports and industrial applications.

The company expects that the new contract in Doha will serve as an important reference for upcoming opportunities in the wider region.

Last month, Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha installed new security screening technology to detect explosive materials in complex items and structures.

The implementation is expected to boost airport security and expedite the inspection process.

Recently, HIA reported a 4.7% year-on-year increase in cargo operations in the first quarter of this year.
