French airport operator VINCI Airports has announced the resumption of flight connections between its France and Portugal airport network.

VINCI resumed operations of Lyon-Saint Exupery and Nantes Atlantique flights in France and airports of Lisbon, Porto and Faro in Portugal following the reopening of internal borders of the Schengen area on 15 June.

To mark the arrival of the first flight from Nantes, a welcome ceremony was held in Lisbon with the Portuguese tourism authorities.

The ceremony was attended by VINCI Concessions CEO Nicolas Notebaert and Transavia France CEO Nathalie Stubler.

Transavia France is the first company to take over on France-Portugal routes.

VINCI resumed first flights as part of its commitment to support the resumption of tourist activity and exchanges between France and Portugal.

New destinations to Portugal will be offered gradually from 26 June onwards.

Earlier this year, VINCI Airports signed an agreement with the Government of Portugal to invest €1.15bn in expanding the capacity of Lisbon airport by 2028 and open a new civil airport in Montijo.

The agreement was signed between the Portuguese Government and wholly owned Vinci subsidiary Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA).

The resumption of commercial flight activity is continuing within the VINCI Airports network as Covid-19 related travel restriction begins to ease across borders.

In the UK, London Gatwick and Belfast airports, part of the VINCI network, also resumed commercial flights this week.

VINCI manages a total of 45 airports in Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, France, Japan, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden, the UK and the US. They are served by over 250 airlines.

Earlier this month, VINCI announced the resumption of work to modernise Serbia’s Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
