Terminal 2 of the airport has been shut down, with flight operations redirected to another terminal.

In a tweet, Abu Dhabi Airport said: “As part of our continuous efforts to provide exceptional service to our airline partners and passengers, we are announcing the closure of Terminal 2 and migrating all existing flights to Terminal 1 at AUH.”

Biman Bangladesh, Pakistan’s AirBlue and Sudan Airways operate from Terminal 2, while Etihad Airways operates from Terminal 3.

This closure at Abu Dhabi Airport comes in the wake of the Covid-19 infection, which has severely impacted global aviation. Several governments have temporarily banned flights from high risk countries.

Globally, the airport sector has also seen a large downturn in demand due to the virus outbreak.

An Abu Dhabi Airports spokesperson was quoted by Khaleej Times as saying: “We can confirm that from 16 March 2020, Terminal 2 at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) will close and all existing flights will migrate to Terminal 1.

“The closure of Terminal 2 at AUH is fully in line with our dedication to delivering exceptional service to our airline partners and passengers and is not in relation to the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19).

“We are currently working with our airline partners to ensure a seamless transition of their operations to Terminal 1. We advise passengers to check the departure terminal with their respective airline before travelling.”

Earlier today, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that only four airports in Canada will receive international flights, effective from 18 March.

Yesterday, the Norwegian Government also announced plans to restrict the entry of non-resident foreigners into its airports.
