The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced airport infrastructure grants worth $520.5m to 287 airports located across 41 US states.
The announcement was made by US Transportation Secretary Elaine L Chao.

Up till now, the government had provided an investment of $11.4bn to improve the safety and infrastructure of around 2,000 US airports since January 2017.
Among the 287 airports to receive the newly announced grants, General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee was awarded $600,000 for runway rehabilitation.
The state of Wisconsin was allocated $15.5m for its airport projects.
In addition, $24m has been allocated to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for the construction of a taxiway, while $31.7m is allocated for Reno-Tahoe International Airport’s runway reconstruction.

By GlobalDataDes Moines International Airport received $1.8m for runway reconstruction and the construction of a service road.
Maine’s Portland International Airport has been allocated $5.6m to build a taxiway and to rehabilitate another taxiway, while Chicago O’Hare International Airport will construct a runway with a $65m grant.
Federal Aviation Administration administrator Steve Dickson said: “America’s airports provide a gateway to the world for our citizens while at the same time delivering first impressions of the United States to visitors from abroad.
“It’s in our national interest to make them the crown jewel in our transportation system. The Airport Improvement Program allows us to do just that.”
USDOT also announced a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for a $1bn discretionary grant funding for infrastructure.
The grant will be awarded via the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Transportation Discretionary Grants programme.
BUILD funding is used to aid the construction of roads, bridges, transit, rail, ports and intermodal transportation.
Chao said: “BUILD grants will upgrade infrastructure across America, making our transportation systems safer and more efficient.”
In September, USDOT announced $986m in grants to execute infrastructure improvement projects at 354 airports.
