Royal Schiphol Group has awarded Beumer Group one out of two framework agreement contracts to manage Amsterdam Schiphol Airport’s baggage handling system.

Part of the group’s strategy to expand, the contract involves the replacement and modification of the airport’s baggage handling system and is valid for a minimum of five-and-a-half years.

Schiphol Airport is part of Royal Schiphol Group, which operates airports both in The Netherlands and abroad.

Schiphol Group baggage manager Ron Wever said: “We are convinced that the outcome of collaborating with the two best in class baggage contractors will result in Schiphol becoming and staying Europe’s Preferred Airport.”

Royal Schiphol Group has announced that it intends to develop Amsterdam Schiphol as ‘Europe’s Preferred Airport’, with the reliability and availability of the baggage handling system being an important part of this initiative.

To achieve this goal, the airport operator is opting for long-term cooperation, which can ensure greater integration between baggage handling systems , as well as aligning the implementation of different future projects.

Last month, Schiphol Airport selected US software firm MarkLogic as its operational flight database provider.

MarkLogic will provide an underlying database for Schiphol Airport’s flight information system.

In June this year, Royal Schiphol Group signed an ‘Accelerating Innovation’ cooperation agreement with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).
