Security solutions provider Smiths Detection has launched new air cargo security scanner HI-SCAN 145180-2is pro.
The scanner uses two 200kV X-ray generators that are arranged at 90° angles. One of the X-ray generators is positioned under the conveyor belt.

The company claimed that this positioning improves penetration and image quality, reducing the expensive and time-consuming need to re-scan.
Smiths Detection also noted that the scanner is easy to maintain and service.
The X-ray generators are controlled digitally, which offers better analysis, diagnostic capabilities and internal memory for data storage.
The compact scanner features tightly packed rollers to support cargo passage through the inspection tunnel.

Last week, Smiths Detection secured a $96.8m contract from the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to supply checkpoint CT systems.
The company also opened a new training and experience centre in India last month. Located in Gurugram, Haryana, the service centre has been set up with an investment of $1.5m.
In April, Smiths Detection’s distributor Dainippon secured an order to deliver a high-speed explosives detection system (EDS) to Argentina’s Ezeiza International Airport.
The HI-SCAN XCT 10080 EDS will be deployed at the airport’s new baggage handling system to boost the speed and efficiency of screening processes.
