German security solutions provider Smiths Detection’s distributor Dainippon has secured an order to deliver a high-speed explosives detection system (EDS) to Ezeiza International Airport in Argentina.
The HI-SCAN XCT 10080 EDS will be deployed at the airport’s new baggage handling system to boost the speed and efficiency of screening processes.
Smiths Detection said that the supply contract for the advanced checked baggage screeners is worth $4.2m.
The HI-SCAN XCT 10080 has been certified by the TSA for high-speed checked baggage screening and meets EU/ ECAC EDS standard 3.0 and 3.1.
With a belt speed of 0.5m/sec (98.5ft/min), the system has a throughput of up to 1,800 bags per hour and its tunnel is capable of screening objects as large as 100cm x 80cm.
It uses dual-energy advanced security X-ray and 3D volumetric Computed Tomography (CT) to provide a better image of hold baggage and air cargo.
The system can also recognise other goods that are of interest to cargo shipment companies, customs, police, and other authorities.
Smiths Detection president Shan Hood said: “Airports around the world trust Smiths Detection to deliver integrated solutions that keep them running effectively, efficiently and assures an enhanced passenger experience.
“The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT’s exceptional capabilities, combined with Smiths Detection’s global service network, will ensure that Ezeiza International Airport is positioned for growth.”
Dainippon specialises in the provision of turnkey solutions related to the integration of non-intrusive technologies for inspection, detection and identification.
Smiths Detection’s distributor Houlberg Instrumentering secured a contract in December last year to supply automated checkpoint lane technology known as iLane.evo to Aalborg Airport in Denmark.
