Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia will boost its capacity with the opening of a third runway by mid-August.
The new runway will allow the airport to manage 114 aircraft movements per hour, an increase of 40% compared to the current 81.

Indonesia Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi told Jakarta Globe: “Technically the runway is ready for operation.
“The only thing left to do now is to improve coordination with (air navigation authority) AirNav and run through some of the procedures one more time.”
The third runway is around 2.5km-long and is built on a land area of around 216ha. It involved an investment of $143.1m.
The contract for the runway’s construction was awarded to Angkasa Pura II (AP2).

Soekarno-Hatta opened in 1985 and is Indonesia’s busiest airport. Last year, more than a quarter of all domestic and international flights operated through the airport.
The airport has been operating at double or triple its capacity over recent decades. The airport received around 112 million passengers last year, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency.
The new runway forms part of an airport upgrade plan aimed at increasing capacity to 51 million travellers annually by the end of 2019.
Additionally, the airport is modernising Terminals 1 and 2, which will increase their capacity to 36 million passengers a year. The modernisation project will cost IDR3.2tn ($229m).
The airport is also building a fourth terminal with a total investment of IDR11tn ($787.9m), which is scheduled to become operational by 2024.
