More than 6.5 million domestic and international passengers travelled through London’s Heathrow Airport in March, representing a 0.5% increase on last year.

It marks the 29th consecutive month of traffic growth at the airport, dispelling the fears around Brexit and air travel.

Statistics released by the airport show that nearly 17.9 million travellers passed through the airport during the first three months of 2019.

Passengers from Africa saw a large increase of 6.2% compared to the same period last year, while domestic connections also saw a slight increase of 0.2%.

Latin America saw double-digit year-on-year growth, increasing 23% on last year’s figures as services to Brazil and Mexico boomed.

British Airways launched its second service to Inverness and Flybe grew their loads by more than a fifth (23%) with an inaugural flight to Cornwall on 31 March.

Data also showed that over 149,000mt of cargo passed through the UK’s biggest port by value.

Virgin’s growth on routes to Africa saw freight to and from the continent grow by 11%.
