Air traffic communications and data solutions provider Frequentis has deployed its Vitalsphere Network Solution (VCX-IP) to augment air traffic management (ATM) communication network in Kazakhstan.

The technology upgrade for the safety-critical ATM communication network was carried out within Kazakhstan’s Almaty flight information region (FIR).

Frequentis said that its VCX-IP network solution will facilitate the exchange of communication and data to advance Almaty FIR to the next level. It will also ensure a smooth and safe migration towards IP technology.

The network solution will allow the exchange of air/ground (A/G) and ground/ground (G/G) radar data over an IP backbone.

“In this phase, the network solution has been rolled out to 13 sites, fully handling the A/G, G/G communication as well as radar data distribution.”

VCX-IP, according to the technology vendor, offers a cost-efficient, step-wise migration path to manage the transition from legacy infrastructure to IP in the most efficient way.

Several elements of the infrastructure are decoupled due to the installation of the VCX-IP network solution, making it possible to move towards an integrated IP network without affecting the existing radar, radio or communication infrastructure elements.

Recently, the Brazilian Airspace Control Department (DECEA) selected Frequentis to deploy a Remote-Control Tower Visualisation System (SVR-TWR) at the Santa Cruz Airfield.

Raytheon has also reached an agreement with Frequentis to deploy remote virtual tower technology (RVTs), aimed at augmenting civil airport operations across the US.
