The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to introduce inline baggage scanning system in the domestic terminal of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

The installation is expected to be complete by April. It will eliminate the need for passengers to stand in a long queue in front of X-ray baggage scanners, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

One inline X-ray machine is already operational at check-in portal C of the domestic section.

The airport is now looking to deploy the new computer tomography X-ray (CTX) system at other portals. Work is expected to conclude by the end of March.

Additionally, the airport partnered with Tata Elxsi to introduce a new wayfinding system that will cover the entire passenger journey from parking to boarding the aircraft. It will also be rolled out by the end of March.

Furthermore, Delite Systems Engineering is set to deliver approximately 2,000 trolley sets to the airport to enable travellers to carry luggage. The company has so far supplied nearly 3,100 new trolleys.

In addition, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport also will undergo the comprehensive repair of the roof, aimed at stopping rainwater seeping through widening gaps in the roof joints.

In order to avoid damage to the repaired roof, the airport is working to construct a network of service walkways along the rim of the roof and across the structure.

Separately, the airport has awarded a contract to aviation planning and development company Landrum & Brown to develop a 20-year master plan to boost the capacity and efficiency of the airport.

Last month, the airport achieved Level 1 Carbon Accreditation Mapping after it successfully met the necessary requirements.
