Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) has awarded a Rs30.36bn ($413m) contract to L&T’s Buildings & Factories business to build Terminal-2 (T2) of the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka.
Under the contract, the business will be responsible for the design, procurement, engineering, construction, testing and commissioning of T2 at the airport.

The scope of the contract also includes the integration of services and utilities with the airport’s systems, support facilities and buildings.

Upon becoming operational, the terminal’s 255,000m² first phase will increase the capacity of the airport by 25 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
Currently, L&T is also building the New South Parallel Runway (NSPR), apron and other auxiliary buildings at the Bengaluru Airport.
The Kempegowda International Airport is said to be India’s first Greenfield airport to be constructed as a public-private partnership.
During the fiscal 2017-18, the airport served 26.91 million passengers.
