Gatwick Airport in London, UK, has witnessed a 1.4% year-on-year increase in the last month, serving 2.8 million passengers.
US routes recorded the highest growth in passenger numbers, with Fort Lauderdale registering the highest passenger growth rate at 92.6% compared to January 2017.

Routes to New York and Boston followed with 51.1% and 31.4% year-on-year growth, respectively.
The US west coast routes also registered a significant increase with Oakland in San Francisco witnessing an improvement of 76.6%, while Los Angeles witnessed a 38.6% improvement in passenger numbers.
Gatwick’s Asian routes also witnessed a surge with Hong Kong taking a lead, registering 42.4% year-on-year growth.
In January this year, Gatwick also managed 29.6% more cargo as a result of its increasing long-haul network, which currently comprises more than 60 worldwide connections.

Gatwick Airport CEO Stewart Wingate said: “January’s traffic shows that US destinations are increasingly popular and next month we’ll be providing even more options for passengers travelling stateside with the launch of new routes to Austin and Chicago.
“These new connections will be joined this summer by British Airways’ biggest summer schedule at the airport in almost ten years, a 15% increase in weekly flights compared to last year.
“As we approach five consecutive years of growth, Gatwick continues to play an increased role for Britain on the global stage and we stand ready to build our financeable and deliverable second runway scheme for the country.”
Last month, the airport announced that it handled 45.6 million passengers, a 5.2% increase from 2016 figures.
