George Best Belfast City Airport in Northern Ireland has announced investment plans to upgrade its departure lounge, central security area and hold baggage screening facilities.

The £15m infrastructure investment will also be used to purchase a new fleet of airport fire appliances.

The upgrade works are expected to improve overall passenger experience at the airport and facilitate security processing for all departing passengers.

Following upgrade works, the departure lounge will have 30% more retail space, incorporating additional dining facilities.

“Belfast City Airport is one of a range of stakeholders who have a key role to play in the ongoing growth of the city, and we warmly welcome the £15m infrastructure investment.”

Passenger seating arrangements will be more than doubled and the airside toilet facilities will be renovated.

All upgrade works are expected to be completed by October this year.

Design of the refurbished terminal was carried out by Todd Architects. H&J Martin will be responsible for the main components of the refit on behalf of the airport.
