London Gatwick’s advanced Airport Community App has won the ‘Business IT Innovation of the Year’ title at the 2017 UK IT Industry Awards led by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and Computing.
Judged by the BCS, the UK hub’s Airport Community App is reported to have delivered the most measurable benefit for its business users and customers.

The Gatwick app was one among ten shortlisted finalists for the UK IT industry award.
Launched at Gatwick Airport last year, the community app concept was devised in partnership with research and development company AirportLabs.
The app provides workers with easy access to real-time information about airport issues on their smartphones.
Gatwick Airport chief information officer Cathal Corcoran said: “The Airport Community app has had a transformational impact across the airport campus, with the digital platform bringing all entities operating on the campus together, breaking down information silos and flattening hierarchy when it comes to real-time data sharing and decision-making.

By GlobalData“More than 200 companies and 10,000 users are now using the app at Gatwick.
“We worked closely with AirportLabs to develop this initiative as a multi-airport app and it is being used or trialled at ten airports across the world already, creating a new industry trend.”
Earlier this month, the Gatwick Airport app secured two separate Digital Entrepreneur Awards, including ‘Best use of Mobile Technology’ and ‘Most Innovative use of Digital Technology’.
It was also presented with the Best Corporate App and the Digital Impact awards.
